Travel Information

Air travel
The Gold Coast Airport is 25km (approximately 25 minutes) by road to Surfers Paradise (location for Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise). Brisbane’s domestic and international airports are 95km (approximately 1 hour 40 minutes) by road to Broadbeach and cater for flights from all major Australian capital cities and all major international flights. All major private and public bus companies operate in and out of the Gold Coast. In addition, the Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle, operated by Surfside Buslines provides transfers between major hotels, the Gold Coast Airport and major theme parks and tourist attractions on the Coast.

Rail
Daily Queensland Rail train services operate between Brisbane Airport (domestic and international terminals) Brisbane city, and the Gold Coast with bus connections to between all the main areas on the Coast. On week days and in peak times the trains run every half hour from major Brisbane city train stations to the Gold Coast. The closest train station to Surfers Paradise is Nerang.  There are connecting shuttle bus services available from the station to Surfers Paradise and other Gold Coast centres

Time zone
Queensland’s time zone is the Australian Eastern Standard time all year. Interstate and overseas delegates need to be aware that Queensland has a one hour time difference when making travel arrangements for March.

Climate
The region enjoys a subtropical climate and an average of 300 days sunshine a year. In September range from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius (59-77oF), making this an ideal time of the year to relax and enjoy the Congress social functions and activities.

A message board will be located near the registration desk.  Please advise potential callers to contact the Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise on +61 (0)7 5592 9900 and ask for the Australasian College of Phlebology Congress office.

Messages cannot be delivered personally.

Visas
All travellers to Australia, other than Australian and New Zealand citizens, are legally required to hold a valid visa or electronic travel authority (ETA). It is your responsibility to ensure documentation is correct and completed before you commence your journey. Delegates must register for the event before lodging their visa/ETA application.

Following your registration, you will receive an acknowledgement letter. This all you require from the event manager in order to make your visa/ETA application. We recommend you apply for your visa/ETA at least six weeks before you travel (earlier in some cases). Tourist tax refund scheme
International travellers can claim back the GST (goods and services tax) and WET (wine equalisation tax) they have paid on goods bought in Australia that they are taking with them when they leave the country.
The tax can be claimed back at international airports and seaports under the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) subject to conditions such as an $A300 minimum from one store.

Details on the TRS are available at www.customs.gov.au under the Travellers heading. Please note that this scheme is not applicable to meeting registration fees or accommodation.

Travel insurance
The Congress organisers recommend that delegates purchase travel insurance including cover for
non-refundable meeting registration fees. 

Electricity
240/250 volts AC 50HZ. Universal outlets for 110 volts (shavers only) are standard in hotels, apartments and motels

Payment
All prices are in Australian dollars including 10% GST.
All online registration must be paid by credit card via the website.
Please note that debits to your credit card will appear as Conference Matters on your statement.
If you complete a registration form manually and pay via cheque, please note cheques or drafts must be in Australian currency, drawn on an Australian bank and free of all charges.
